Martlets Fall to Berkshire

On a crisp Saturday afternoon at Hovey Field, Westminster field hockey celebrated its seniors and took on a strong Berkshire squad in their final home game of the season. Despite a determined effort, the Martlets fell 3-0 to the visiting Bears. Berkshire came out strong, controlling much of the play through the first two quarters and taking a 1-0 lead after the opening frame before adding another goal before halftime to make it 2-0. Westminster’s defensive unit, anchored by goal keeper Hannah Maltby ‘26, stood tall against relentless pressure. Maltby made several key saves to keep the Martlets within striking distance, while the backline worked tirelessly to fend off multiple Berkshire corners and scoring opportunities. After halftime, Westminster settled in and began to control more of the possession. The Martlets’ passing and pace improved significantly in the second half, allowing them to generate more offensive opportunities. Despite their renewed energy and improved play, they couldn’t quite capitalize in the circle. Berkshire added one more goal late to seal the 3-0 final. Although not the outcome the Martlet’s were hoping for, it was a good effort all around and a fun day celebrating our seniors. A big thank you to our six incredible seniors for all they have contributed to our program over the years- Caroline Callen, Gigi Filippetti, Chase Hager, Pippa Jiranek, Taleah Leonard, and Hannah Maltby!

Our Grit & Grace players of the game are Hannah Maltby and Catherine Knauf! Hannah made some huge saves in net, while Catherine made some game changing defensive plays to keep the Martlets in the game.
