Another bitter loss

Frantz Batoh
In a challenging match against Loomis, the Martlets faced an uphill battle right from the start, conceding an early goal just three minutes into the game. Loomis displayed impressive ball circulation and precise passes, establishing their dominance on the field. Despite this pressure, the Martlets showed remarkable resilience, especially from key players like Suri Dong ’28 and defenders Lucy Morton ’26, Abbey Cirelli ’27, and Giana Monaco ’27, who worked tirelessly to keep the score at 1-0 throughout the first half. Their strong defensive effort was commendable, as they absorbed Loomis’ attacks and maintained hope of a turnaround.

The second half saw Loomis continue their dominance, eventually scoring again 15 minutes in to extend their lead to 2-0. However, the Martlets refused to back down, and their tenacity paid off when they earned a penalty kick after a Loomis player committed a handball in the box. Abbey Cirelli stepped up to take the shot and executed it brilliantly, giving the team a much-needed boost. Unfortunately, the joy was short-lived as Loomis quickly responded with two more goals, effectively sealing the game at 4-1. The match was further marred by an injury to Lexie Willis ’26, who was struck in the mouth by the ball, necessitating the attention of the trainer. Despite the challenging circumstances, the Martlets showed tremendous heart and determination throughout the match.
