Martlets Fall to AOF

Another tough afternoon for your Martlets as we visited AOF over their Parents Weekend. We were short-handed again this Saturday due to absences, illnesses, and injuries; those who were at the game all played significant amounts (for some, more than they played all year). Having only 2 substitutions playing against a bench that 8-10 proved to be a deciding factor.
The Winged Beavers and the Martlets played an even first half with each team creating scoring chances. AOF finally entered the scoring column 26 minutes into the half off a set piece. They added another quick goal 2 minutes later off an offensive deflection inside our 6 yard box. Jack Greco ‘28 poked in a loose ball only a minute later to provide us some momentum going into the halftime break.
The second half saw our energy levels fall as the lack of substitutions caught up with us. Avon scored in the 4th (our defensive set-up was confused on a shot from outside the box), 10th (easy turn-over off one of our goal kicks), 20th (long run from near midfield past our defense), and 25th (penalty kick). They also added two more late goals. Shout outs to Jack for his goal, Henry Brooks ‘28 our goalie who did not get down on himself or his teammates as the score got out of hand), and Sonny Darnowski ‘28 who finally gave Henry a break and stepped into goal late in the game.
Our GRIT & Grace player for the day is Dylan Curtis who played nearly the entire game at one of our central defense positions. Dylan was consistent, solid, fast, and aggressive the entire game.
