Martlets Battle vs Suffield

The Quad Squad welcomed Suffield to Williams Hill for their home opener on a humid and rainy Wednesday afternoon. With almost their full team of 28 players dressed and ready to compete, the Martlets took control of the game early on with fast-paced and intense play. Westminster created several scoring chances, but couldn’t get the ball past Suffield’s skilled and athletic goalkeeper. With the score tied at the start of the second half, Suffield capitalized on a loose ball breakaway, scoring the game’s first goal. The Martlets responded quickly when some top-notch passing set up Connor Quinn ‘29 for a gritty strike to the net, setting him up to bury the ball in the net’s bottom right corner to tie the game. The teams battled hard until the final whistle, with the match ending in a tie. Westminster made significant improvements from their first game, especially in their spacing and defensive strategy. The Grit and Grace award goes to Connor Quinn ‘29 for his crucial goal, but more importantly, for the way he balances competitive intensity with a collaborative and team-first attitude in games and practices.
