Martlets Fall to Knights

Yesterday our Thirds Boys’ Soccer team made the trek to visit the Crimson Knights. We had a short bench but were buoyed by three players from the Second team who joined us. The game started well for the Martlets as we quickly gained control of the ball and forced play into the Salisbury end. In the 3rd minute Colin Daly ‘27 crossed the ball from the left side and Arthur Lilly ‘27 scored with his left foot! Salisbury regrouped quickly and tied the game in the 5th minute on a breakaway from the edge of the center circle and raced down to our 18 yard line before slotting the ball past goalie Henry Brooks ‘28. At the 23rd minute mark Brooks stopped a penalty kick with a diving save to his left! Unfortunately, in the 28th minute Salisbury scored another breakaway goal. We tied the game at 2 in the 33 minute on a nice goal from Winston Caracappa ’28 off a pass from Nate Teong ‘28.
Our short bench became apparent during the second half as Salisbury controlled more of the play. They scored at the 13th minute on a loose ball scramble in our box, the 15th minute on a defensive turnover at the edge of our box, and finally in the 31st minute. Our boys continued to battle to the end and actually earned a penalty kick in the waning seconds of the game. Disappointingly, the official allowed the game clock to expire rather than award the kick.
Special shout-out to the boys from the Second team who played with us: George Baird ‘26, Terry Deng, ‘28, and Nazar Tatus ‘27. Tatus earned our GRIT & Grace award for his exemplary leadership and indefatigable endurance! Our next game is home vs. Pomfret on Saturday at 2pm.
