Martlets Sweep Pomfret

Finally some signs of the sun. The boys continued their long tennis week with an away bout against a solid Pomfret team who were a tiebreak away from beating Salisbury earlier in the season–we knew we had to be at a solid level to get back in the win column after Hotchkiss on Wednesday. Doubles started out shaky, but Will Henry ‘26 and Finn Hocking ‘26 kept good things going at #3, winning 8-1. Co-captain Hugh Olson ‘25 and Alex Brown ‘27 saved their best for the end, and also closed out their set 8-5. Similarly, Parks Cuskley ‘25 and Liam Hibbard ‘27 stayed calm and steady, serving out their set 8-6. Up 1-0 overall heading into singles. Much better start overall compared to doubles, with all players winning their opening sets. Shoutout to co-captain Alexei Kocatas ‘25 and Hibbard who got through their matches against both steady, hard-hitting opponents. Hocking and Brown also continued their momentum from their first sets, winning at the #3 and #5 spots respectively. The grit and grace award goes to Cuskley! He stayed on the gas after a tough first set and won his second set 6-2 against a strong #1 player from Pomfret. As a bonus, it was great to see some doubles reps from young one Noah Maltby ‘28 and Henry Flaton ‘25 in the exhibition spot. One more match to go this week in what will be the busiest of the season home tomorrow against Frederick Gunn.
