Martlets Defeat SHS

Westminster faced off against local rival Simsbury High School on the Hovey Turf in their first matchup of the 2025 season. The Martlets came out energized and focused, led by three returning starters on attack (Aidan O’Callaghan ‘26, Andrew Sala ‘26 and Matt Gregorski ‘26) who did a nice job controlling the ball and waiting patiently for scoring opportunities. The Martlets jumped out to a 3-0 lead and were up by as much as 6-2 before the Simsbury Trojans made a comeback in the third quarter, narrowing the lead to two goals. Westminster regrouped and took control of the game in the fourth quarter, adding three much-needed goals to preserve their victory. Kai Leroy ‘27 scored three goals in his impressive Westminster debut in the midfield. Sala also scored three goals with O’Callaghan, Gregorski, and Jack Doherty ‘26 each adding one more. Jordan Pham ‘26 made some big saves in net, Henry Brooks ‘28 and Tyler Ungerman ‘26 both battled hard on faceoffs, and Henry Baird ‘26 earned the game’s Grit and Grace Award for his smart play, outstanding effort, and vocal and passionate leadership. The Martlets will get back to work in the two practices ahead of their Saturday road trip across the state border to face perennial powerhouse Deerfield.
