Martlets Defeat Pomfret

After a quick sleep, and a few classes, the Martlets were back on the bus today as they headed out the quiet corner of Connecticut to play the Griffins from Pomfret. The Black and Gold came ready to play today and despite a scoreless first period played a very solid 18 minutes. The boys came out firing the second period, carrying the play from the start of the period, and generating chance after chance. The Pomfret tender played great all day and turned away some grade A chances to keep the footless birds off the board. Right around the 10-minute mark Brian Judge ’24 opened the scoring for the Martlets. Off the ensuing faceoff Ryan Shaw ’24 netted his first of the day and just like that the Martlets were up 2-0. With just under 5 to play the Martlets found themselves on the power play. Michael Bianco ’24 won the faceoff back to Patrick Dotson ’24, Dotson slid it over to Ryan Shaw ’24 who fired it at the net where Michael Bianco buried the rebound for his first of the day.  Pomfret did capitalize on a turnover to cut the lead to 2. That was short lived when Bianco corralled a loose puck in the neutral zone, gained entry, and fired a beauty that beat the tender short side high that sent the water bottle flying. With a 4-1 lead going into the third the Martlets knew they needed to control the first five minutes of the period and go from there. Pomfret did score another on a power play with just around 12 minutes to play but Ryan Shaw netted his second of the game with just over 2 minutes to play to seal this one at 5-2. Matteo De Luca, once again, made the saves he needed to today in the paint. All around a good effort today, and a good week. Deerfield, away, on Monday.
