Westminster Cannot Overcome Early Deficit in Loss to Winged Beavers

Westminster made the quick trip across Route 44 to face local rival Avon Old Farms. However, the Martlets got off to a slow start and dropped the doubles point despite the debut of the thirds doubles team of Keegan Bankoff '22 and Ethan Na '19. The team was hastily put together due to the absence Grant McCargo '21 (AP Euro exam). They lost in a hard fought 7-9 decision. In singles, Carl Ekholm '19 won handily in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to secure the lone point for the team. Yet the true story is how Westminster failed to capitalize on chances late in the match. After Ekholm's victory in singles, Westminster dropped first sets at Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5. However, they dug in and held leads during the early in the second sets but were unable to close out their opponents. This weekend Westminster travels to the Northwest Corner for the SNETL tournament on May 11.
