Martlets Fall to DA

Westminster welcomed Deerfield to Jackson Rink on Wednesday night for an energetic home matchup, and the Martlets wasted no time getting on the board. Just minutes into the opening period, Ellie Larrabee ‘27 moved the puck up to the point to Kuylie Kim ‘29, who sent a shot toward the net that was tipped in front and was pushed just enough to slip over the goal line. Mya Polastry ‘27 was credited with the goal, giving Westminster an early 1-0 lead which they held through the end of the first period. The Martlets carried strong momentum into the second, but Deerfield found the equalizer with seven minutes remaining in the frame. Westminster responded almost instantly, reclaiming the lead just 20 seconds later in a display of resilience and focus. Another shot from Kuylie Kim’ 29 found its way to the stick of Ruby Robertson ‘28 who was positioned perfectly for a backdoor tap in. Deerfield, however, capitalized on a 5-on-3 opportunity later in the period, ripping home a well-executed one-timer to send the game into the third tied at 2-2. A dramatic second frame to say the least! The intensity continued into the final period as both teams battled for control. About halfway through the third, Deerfield converted on another power play to take their first lead of the night at 3-2. Just minutes later, they extended their advantage to 4-2, a margin that ultimately stood as the final score. Despite the result, Westminster showed determination and composure throughout the contest, matching Deerfield’s pace and competing hard in all three zones. It was a hard-fought, high-energy game at Jackson Rink and a strong overall effort from the Martlets. Liesel Kocourek ‘27 was in net for the Martlets and had a strong showing, making timely saves during Deerfield’s periods of extended zone time. The Martlets look ahead to their next matchup on Saturday as they travel to Canterbury.

Our Grit & Grace player of the game is junior Ellie Larrabee! Ellie had the first goal for the Martlets tonight and was acknowledged by her teammates after the game for her consistent effort in both practices and games.
