Martlets Tie Williston to Open Season

In game one of the 2025–2026 season, the Martlets hosted Williston for a Friday night tilt at Jackson Rink. The boys were fired up to open the year at home, and the first period had terrific pace. Westminster carried play for the full 18 minutes, outshooting Williston 13–1. It was clear early on, though, that the Williston netminder and defensive corps were going to make it tough to get inside the dots all night.
The second period brought more of the same, with Williston settling in and generating a few quality chances—but Sophomore goaltender Caden Weichselbaumer ’28 stood tall. He was outstanding from start to finish, turning away 30 of the 31 shots he faced.
The Martlets finally broke the scoreless game in the third when Sophomore Charlie Davis ’28 picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, used the defenseman as a screen, and snapped a low shot that beat the Williston goalie. Up 1–0, Westminster pushed to extend the lead, but Williston kept coming and eventually tied the game with just minutes remaining.
Regulation ended knotted at 1. In overtime, the Martlets generated several strong looks—including one off the crossbar—but couldn’t find the winner.
All in all, a solid start with plenty to build on and lots to like. NMH next.
