Martlets Fall at Deerfield

The Martlets played another back and forth game on Saturday.  Deerfield came out swinging in the first several minutes.  Ethan Griffin '26 got the Martlets going early with his presence inside.  Deerfield had no answer for him.  Towards the end of the second half, Deerfield went on a run and went up by as much as 17 to close out the half.  To open up the second half, Elliot Goldberg '28 got going as he hit several shots to cut into the lead.  The Martlets showed some grit and cut the 17 point lead to a 4 point game with roughly 4 minutes to go.  Draven Chung '26 gave the Martlets some solid minutes on the glass.  As always, Brendan Williams '26 played tough defense and collected several rebounds.  Julien Wiggins '27 put the team on his back late and made a lot of plays down the stretch.  We were down by 1 point with 1 min to go but then Deerfield hit a 3 late in the closing seconds.  And the game eventually ended in free throws.  The Martlets will play Portsmouth Abbey in the first round of the KIT holiday tournament at Kingswood Oxford this Friday.
