Martlets Fall in Opener

Westminster hit the road today to kick off the 25-26 season at St. Marks, with the Martlets falling 3-0 in a competitive matchup. Goaltender Liesel Kocourek ‘27 was outstanding early, turning away a flurry of Grade-A chances to keep the Martlets firmly in the game through the first period. During the second period, Westminster settled in and generated more sustained pressure, creating several quality looks and drawing power-play opportunities, though the group wasn’t able to convert. The Martlets entered the third period trailing just 1-0, but penalties proved costly down the stretch. While Westminster continued to push to get on the scoreboard, the lions capitalized on their chances with the extra skater to extend the lead. Despite the loss, it was a strong season-opening effort with plenty of bright spots. Westminster has a solid foundation to build on as the season progresses. The Martlets look to find their scoring touch in their next matchup on Saturday, at Jackson Rink, against The Hill School.

Our Grit & Grace player of the game today is Junior Captain Bella Zapata. Bella consistently gave a strong effort, putting her team in the best position to succeed.
