Martlets Fall to Bearcats

Westminster put up a strong fight on Hovey Field Wednesday afternoon but ultimately fell to a talented Hotchkiss squad, 3-1. Hotchkiss opened the game with two goals in the first half, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. Despite the early deficit, the Martlets stayed composed and focused, anchored by excellent defensive play and key saves from goalkeeper Hannah Maltby ‘26, who kept the game within reach with several clutch stops. Westminster continued to battle throughout the second half, showing resilience and energy. With just under six minutes left on the clock, the Martlets broke through. Capitalizing on an offensive corner, the ball was played out and eventually found its way onto a Martlet stick who sent it into the circle. The shot made its way through traffic and eventually into the back of the net, cutting the lead to 2-1. Westminster kept the pressure on in the final minutes, pushing for the equalizer, but with just seconds remaining, Hotchkiss sealed the win by converting a corner to make it 3-1. It was a hard-fought game, and the Martlets showed determination and grit against a strong opponent. Westminster is back on Hovey Field this Saturday to take on Williston!
