Martlets Shutout by Milton

Under the lights on a crisp Friday night at Hovey Field, Westminster took on Milton Academy in an energetic field hockey matchup. Backed by a spirited crowd, the Martlets came out strong, feeding off the home support to control early possession and set the tone. Despite the strong start, the first quarter ended scoreless. Heading into the second quarter, the Mustangs were able to strike first. A well-placed shot from the top of the circle early in the second quarter gave Milton the lead. This would be the lone goal of the half, giving the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. The third quarter proved challenging for Westminster, as Milton capitalized on their chances and extended the lead to 3-0. Though the Martlets struggled to generate sustained offensive momentum, their effort never wavered. Hannah Maltby ‘26 came up with several clutch saves in goal, while Pippa Jiranek ‘26 was key in breaking up Milton's attack, especially on defensive corners. Despite the final score, it was a solid showing from the Martlets, marked by resilience and strong defensive moments. It will be a quick turnaround for the Martlets as they take on local opponent Loomis Chaffe tomorrow for what should be a great day at Hovey Field!

Our Grit & Grace player of the game is junior Stella Spitz. Stella's consistent effort today was recognized by her teammates as being a spark for the Martlets!
