Martlets Deliver on Senior Day

Senior Day at Jackson Rink delivered all the drama and excitement one could hope for, as the Martlets battled the bears from Berkshire to a thrilling 3-1 victory. The opening period set the tone for what would be a tightly contested matchup. Both teams traded chances in a fast-paced, back-and-forth first frame, but strong defensive play and steady goaltending on both ends kept the scoreboard empty after one. The breakthrough finally came late in the second period. With just six minutes remaining, Jane Curtiss ‘28 capitalized on a power play opportunity to give the Martlets a 1-0 lead! The play began when Ruby Robertson ‘28 fired the puck on net, creating chaos in front. Curtiss found herself in perfect position and buried the rebound home to ignite the Senior Day crowd. Berkshire answered with resilience, converting on their own power play later in the period to knot the score at 1-1 heading into the third. The final frame was a battle from start to finish, with both teams pushing for the go-ahead goal. With just three minutes remaining, Naomi Flom ‘27 delivered the moment of the night. Off a faceoff, the puck slipped just behind Berkshire’s center. Flom reacted instantly, jumping on the loose puck and rifling it top shelf short side to give Westminster a 2-1 advantage. Berkshire pulled their goalie soon after, putting the pressure on the Martlets’ defense. With one minute left and a defensive zone faceoff looming, Westminster called a timeout to regroup. Off the draw, the puck found its way to Bella Zapata ‘27, who was immediately pressured by two Berkshire defenders. Zapata sent the puck down the ice. Though the referee initially raised an arm for icing, junior Ellie Larrabee ‘27 showcased incredible speed to beat it out, negating the call. A pure hustle play! Larrabee then slid the puck across to Mya Polastry ‘27, who sealed the victory with the empty-net goal.
It was a well-earned 3-1 win for the Martlets and a fitting way to celebrate the seniors in their final game at Jackson Rink. A memorable performance, a roaring home crowd, and a Senior Day victory made it a highlight of the season for Westminster!

Our Grit & Grace players of the game tonight were our seniors! The Martlets would like to say a special thank you to seniors Izzy Hurkala, Pippa Jiranek, and Gigi Filippetti as well as our two incredible managers TayTay Leonard and Mimi Salman for all that they have given to the program over the years! We can’t wait to cheer them on in their next endeavors!
