Westminster Beats Choate on the Road

First Girls’ Lacrosse extended its winning streak to three on May 9 with a thrilling victory over Choate in Wallingford, Conn. Westminster got on the board first three minutes into the first half and it was a back and forth battle for the remainder of the game. Westminster took control of draws, thanks to solid play on the circle by Blake Cote ‘19 and Greta Baker ‘19, but Choate found the back of the net while capitalizing on unforced turnovers by Westminster. The second half was a true battle and the Martlets found themselves down by two goals with four minutes left. Goalie Ellie Bailey ‘21 came up with a key save that allowed Westminster to maintain possession and captain Emma Alpaugh ‘18 put one in the back of the net to tie the game. The Martlets won the ensuing draw and played composed and disciplined attack until, with 43 seconds left, captain Emma Lange ‘18 scored the game winning goal off a free position shot. Bailey stopped another Choate shot, and the Martlets were relentless and gritty, playing together each minute. Westminster looks forward to playing KO on Friday.
