"Westminster School seeks curious and engaged students who want to grow and learn in a challenging and supportive environment. Students who are motivated to become their best selves both in and out of the classroom, taking advantage of the myriad of opportunities Westminster has to offer."
“At Westminster, we aspire to an extraordinarily ambitious commitment to secondary education, a commitment to nurture the participation of our diverse school community across our entire program — from academics, to studios and labs, gyms, fields and rink, and service to our Hartford community partners. Westminster students are inspired by opportunities to make a difference in all their endeavors.”
"Through gritty trial and error, Westminster students grow into independent learners who are curious, critical thinkers. With the support of faculty, students gain the skills to understand the world around them and enrich their communities at school and beyond."
"The visual and performing arts program at Westminster weaves the community together and nurtures the spirit of the Westminster campus. The arts at Westminster inspire students of all levels of experience from the very beginner to the advanced artist to practice the freedom of creative self-expression. Professional teachers guide students to work through the creative process from inception to the presentation, building a lifelong respect and appreciation for the arts."
Kerry Kendall Head of Visual and Performing Arts Department
"Athletic success at Westminster is measured not only by wins and losses, but through the bonds created between teammates and coaches, individual and team improvement, and personal growth. When students learn how to be competitors and how to cooperate with one another, they are better prepared to be citizens of the global world."
“Driven by a desire to serve young people and conscious of the opportunities for private schools to support a public purpose, Westminster School’s mission statement concludes with the call ‘to commit to a life of service beyond self.’ Westminster’s Hartford Partnership programs aim to deliver on that mission while making a direct impact on people and programs in Hartford.”
Patrick Owens Executive Director, Horizons at Westminster & Hartford Partnerships
“Involvement will be the key to your success at Westminster School. Get involved with the arts, try a sport you've never played, start your own club, run for student council. You will get out of this experience exactly what you put into it. Do these things early in your life — keep seeking more opportunities for growth.”

Tony brings to Westminster an extensive background in mathematics from his college and graduate studies and his participation in professional organizations. He has more than 30 years of experience teaching in independent schools. He grades AP® Calculus exams each summer for the College Board and works with the AP® Test Development Committee. Tony has also presented papers and led workshops at National Council of Teachers of Mathematics conferences and at the Northeast Section of the Mathematical Association of America.
Tony was raised in Neenah, Wis., where he learned to love snow, bratwurst, the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. He lives in a campus home with his wife, Dr. Jessica Kulynych. They have three children, Jesse ’19, Willa and Cedar. From his school days in North Carolina, Tony fell in love with the Outer Banks and loves to spend time there. Following graduation from Middlebury College, where he was an All-College Scholar, Charlie began a career in corporate and investment banking in New York. After five years, his love of history and teaching took him to Yale, where he earned a master’s degree with high honors in history. Charlie then moved to the South Kent School, where he taught history; coached soccer, hockey and lacrosse; served as a housemaster; and was director of athletics. In 1994, he came to Westminster, a school with which his family's history dates back to 1953. He was appointed head of the History Department in 1997. After nine years in that position, he served as a dean of students for four years. He returned full time to the History Department in 2010 and once again served as head of the department between 2020 and 2023. In 2016, Charlie assumed leadership of the Westminster Teaching Initiative, spearheading the school's efforts to keep the faculty informed about current issues and developments in teaching and learning. In 2023, he was named associate dean of faculty, supporting the dean of faculty and working with faculty colleagues on professional development, current pedagogy, and best classroom practices. Known for his keen sense of humor, Charlie is popular with students for making history come alive in the classroom. He also serves as a coach for Varsity Boys’ Soccer and Junior Varsity Boys’ Hockey. As a part of Westminster’s 125th anniversary celebration, he researched and wrote a 25-year history of the school titled “The True Life.” Charlie was captain of his high school soccer and golf teams. He continues his avid interest in sports and the outdoors, and can often be found in search of a golf game or a fellow fly fisherman. The father of three children, Kathryn ’11, Tommy ’14 and Jack ’17, Charlie and his wife, Jeannie, who works in Cole Library, are both honorary members of the Class of 2014 and live in a faculty home on campus with their dog, Macduff.
Jeannie brings a great deal of experience as a teacher and tutor in public and independent schools to her role as a librarian. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biological sciences at Wellesley College, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and was awarded the Lucy Branch Allen Prize for excellence in biological sciences.
At Westminster, Jeannie is an assistant librarian. Previously, she served as an office assistant in the admissions office and a biology tutor. She also was a dormitory parent with her husband, history teacher Charlie Griffith, for 11 years. They are honorary members of the Class of 2014. She is the faculty advisor to The Bibliophiles, our student book club. Jannie served as the director of student activities for nine years.
Jeannie and Charlie have three children, Kathryn ’11, Tommy ’14 and Jack ’17, and live in a faculty home on campus. In her free time, Jeannie enjoys reading, walking and needlepoint.
Dr. Vincenza A. Guariniello is a clinical child and adolescent psychologist who recently graduated from the University of Hartford’s Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology. She completed her American Psychological Association (APA) accredited doctoral psychology internship at Astor Services for Children and Families in Dutchess County. During this experience, she worked as a clinical specialist for female, male and transgender youth in an outpatient community mental health clinic and in an unlocked psychiatric residential treatment facility. Some of her experiences included collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to establish treatment goals, safety plans, positive behavior incentive systems as well as individual, family and group therapy. Multiple comprehensive psychological evaluations were also completed during this experience. Dr. Guariniello plans to continue working within a multidisciplinary team and aims to become board certified in clinical child and adolescent psychology. One major takeaway that Dr. Guariniello would like to instill in the youth and families that she works with is the importance of balancing structure, flexibility and fun!
