"Westminster School seeks curious and engaged students who want to grow and learn in a challenging and supportive environment. Students who are motivated to become their best selves both in and out of the classroom, taking advantage of the myriad of opportunities Westminster has to offer."
"At Westminster, we aspire to an extraordinarily ambitious commitment to secondary education, a commitment to nurture the joyous participation of our diverse school community across our entire program, from our academic classrooms, to our studios and labs, to our gyms, fields and rink, and to our service to Hartford community partners. Westminster students are inspired by opportunities to make a difference in all their endeavors."
"By the time students prepare to leave Westminster to further their academic experience in college, we hope to have instilled a nascent passion for a number of disciplines."
"Visual and performing artists at Westminster gain an understanding of traditions and methods while gaining confidence, analytical thinking and public presentation skills. Students also learn self-expression, collaboration and leadership while supportive faculty instill a lifelong appreciation of the arts."
David Chrzanowski Head of Visual and Performing Arts Department
"Athletic success at Westminster is measured not only by wins and losses, but through the bonds created between teammates and coaches, individual and team improvement, and personal growth. When students learn how to be competitors and how to cooperate with one another, they are better prepared to be citizens of the global world."
"Driven by a desire to serve young people and aware of the obligation of a private school to serve a public purpose, Westminster School's mission statement concludes with the call ‘to commit to a life of service beyond self.’ Westminster's Hartford partnership programs are the outgrowth of that mission with a direct impact on the young people of Hartford."
Kathleen Devaney Executive Director, Hartford Partnerships and Horizons at Westminster
Westminster's girls’ lacrosse program supports three competitive teams each spring. Over the past decade, First Girls’ Lacrosse has risen to become one of the premier programs in Western New England. The second team has put together four successive seasons of more than 10 victories, and the third team has become a training ground for future success in lacrosse.
The school's commitment to girls' lacrosse is apparent in the fantastic facilities available for the program and players, including beautiful fields nestled in the woods of the lower campus, a synthetic turf field, and a state-of-the-art weight training room in the Sherwin Athletic Center. In addition, Westminster’s hockey rink, Jackson rink, is turned into an incredible indoor turf field for the spring and summer months and was recently used by the U.S. Men’s National Indoor Lacrosse team for its final round of tryouts and scrimmages before the world championship tournament.
Westminster graduates have gone on to play at colleges and universities across the country, including the University of Denver, Gettysburg, Cornell, Colby, Skidmore, Bowdoin, Babson, Roanoke, Union, Lehigh, Vassar, University of California at Berkeley, and Holy Cross. The program has produced several All-Americans, Honorable Mention All-Americans and Academic All- Americans over the years.
