Martlets Fall to Choate

The Martlets hit the road for a chance at some redemption against Choate. The weather initially threatened before we arrived in Wallingford, but it cleared, giving us the green light to play against the backdrop of beautiful spring weather and cherry blossom trees. At the boy’s request, I allowed them to rematch their opponents. Although we didn’t win, we put up more of a fight this time. Match of the day goes to co-captain Kimi Weng ’24, who fought an elegant but grueling game against Choate’s top seed. The rest of the matches had finished as their duel continued. Both teams collected on the hill overlooking the courts to watch the game’s conclusion. James Teng ’26 earned us our only point of the day in a well-played singles match, 6-0. Khang Ngo ’27 fell into a hole early but clawed back into contention. Unfortunately, his opponent stalled his comeback, but Khang didn’t give up. Our doubles duos for the day also put up a good effort. I challenged Paolo Wan ’27 and James Teng ’27 to win their doubles match to earn a team feed. For some reason, they played a little better than last week, losing by a much narrower margin this time. The Zach Li ’27 and Mathias Seber ’26 team also played well but fell 5-8 in the end. Our lovable group of misfits travels to Taft this Saturday.
