A Runaway

Another warm and sunny day in CT as the boys visited Frederick Gunn in what looked to be a solid, feisty affair. Hugh Olson ‘25 and Liam Hibbard ‘27 took the #1 doubles spot and after an initially close few games, ran away with the pro set 8-2. With the team of Logan Sun ‘24/Finn Hocking ‘26 at #2 and Will Henry ‘26/Henry Flaton ‘25 at #3, both duos were solid under pressure and took them 8-5 each. Up 1-0 entering singles. Co-captain Will Whiting ‘24 had a great battle at #1, winning 6-3, 6-4 despite not feeling great. Sun and Olson also won at #2 and #3 despite a few of the sets being close towards the finish. Well done for Logan to seal the clinch! As a bonus, Alex Chen ‘24 played some of his steadiest tennis of the year, winning at #5 8-0 once the overall match was decided. The highlight belonged to Arhsaan Shah ‘26, who had multiple match points, may have saved one or two, battled some cramping, then got it in a tight tiebreak to win 8-7 (8). Great win for him in his first start of the season. Flaton and Henry piled on the good vibes with exhibition wins of their own, the drive back to Simsbury felt a little smoother than the initial trip out to Washington. It was great to see a former Martlet with Coach Leathers, well done to Frederick Gunn on plenty of improvements over the last few years. The boys will put in some work Monday and Tuesday and look forward to facing a strong Taft team on the road Wednesday.
