Some of the Best Golf of the Season

With very little fanfare but a high grit level, the Lady Martlets played some of their best golf of the season this afternoon at Hartford's Keeney Park. Although they fell just short of evening the season score with the Pelicans, they persevered against GA and collectively elevated their games.  #3 Taylor Horgan ‘24 would continue her recent tear, playing consistently behind her driving blasts and closing out her Loomis match on the ninth hole with three beautiful shots and a one putt. Horgan’s 39, the low round of the day, would mark a personal best of breaking the 40 barrier for the first time. Congrats.  #2 Lucy Wainwright ‘25 found her swing early and effectively built her lead against both opponents and never looked back. Her 25 foot putt along with steady iron play added up to her best performance of the season. At # 1 Cindion Huang ‘25 found her own driving consistency but struggled with her short game against two seasoned players. Huang would overcome her GA opponent but fall just short of her Pelican. I sense that Huang’s next match with Loomis will be the charm. Playing at #4 and #5 respectively Ella Ungerman ‘24 and Elise Park ‘25 played some solid golf as well but were unable to overtake their opponents. From this coach’s perspective, it was fun to witness this group find midseason form and play with both confidence and joy. Wednesday is an off day and then the girls will be back at it on Saturday with Ethel Walkers.
