A Battle

The boys traveled to the northwest corner for the second time this week, and despite a battle, could not pull out the win. The martlets were down a few players due to injury and illness and The doubles point went fairly quicklly. Crosby Cutler ‘27 and Xavier Kahn ‘27, playing at #1 Doubles for the first time in their young careers, performed very well in a competitive 8-3 loss. Cole Hadden ‘26 and Connor gray ‘26, and Caden Cramer ‘27 and Rohan Satpathy ‘27 both had some good points throughout their matches, but came out on the losing end. Given the format of the doubles point, we went into singles down by a point. Daniel Frid ‘27 and Caden Cramer ‘27 both fought hard but fell to strong opponents at #3 and #5 singles respectively. Connor Gray ‘26 picked up his first win of the season with a nice 8-2 win at #6 singles. Steven Chun ‘25 at #1 singles went up quick 7-1. After a brief comeback by his opponent, he closed out a fairly straightforward 8-4 win. This put Salisbury up 3-2, with the two matches of the day left on court. At #2 singles, Crosby Cutler ‘27 was 3-6 down in a pro-set format, before chipping away at his opponent and fighting back to level the score. Meanwhile, Xavier Kahn ‘27 went down 0-4 at #4 singles. While he lost those games, these four games were very competitive and set him up for a very competitive match. He got back into the match, including winning some very long games, and got himself back in the match. While he ultimately lost the match 6-8 to seal the victory for the hosts, he played a great match in his first singles match for the team. Meanwhile, Crosby went ahead 7-6, before his opponent got the momentum back to level it at 7-7 and force the tiebreaker. Crosby played a very solid tiebreak, and closed it out 7-5. While we might not have known that the 4-3 outcome was going to happen after doubles, the Martlets played another very competitive match that was lost by just a couple of points. We are back on the road next Wednesday when we travel to Taft.
