First Tri-Match of Season

In its first tri-match of the season, the golfing Martlets faced an additional “opponent,” battling fierce and cold winds, intermittent rain and even a little snow.  For all three teams in the competition, the first three holes were about surviving and adjusting to the elements before setting into the rhythms of play.  The collective grit of the Westminster group set the tone for the round with the Black and Gold persevering over Williston but falling to Taft, last year’s NE champion.  Cindion Huang ‘25 led the way posting the team’s low round of the day (40) and gaining confidence in her precise drives and efficient putting.  Lucy Wainwright ‘25 also came out charging, solidly beating her Williston opponent and gaining a tie against Taft’s #2 player. From this coach’s perspective, Wainwright appeared to enjoy the outing.  Taylor Horgan ‘24, in her first match of the season, finally settled down and started to strike the ball well en route to her own win over Williston.  Horgan enjoyed the team’s second birdie of the season, a moment that may have changed the trajectory of her round.  Newcomer Catherine Knauf ‘27 experienced her first taste of competition, steadying her nerves early and putting together a nice string of holes to even the score with her Williston opponent and come away with a tie.  Knauf has put plenty of sweat equity into her swing during the early weeks of the season and is beginning to see the rewards for her hard work.  The dynamic duo of Grace Li ‘26 and Elise Park ‘25 also braved the cold and enjoyed their own highlights as Li hit fairway after fairway with her consistent drives and Park finished her round with a beautiful par.  Both girls stayed focused and enthusiastic as they befriended their opponents in some fun pairings.  Next up Hotchkiss and Kingswood for a rare Monday contest at Hop Meadow CC.
