The Season Begins

The girls golf team began their 2024 campaign facing off against an always strong Pelican squad from Loomis. After several weeks of iffy golf weather and lots of team time striking balls in the golf simulators, this group was eager and ready to begin competition outside. Although the Martlets lost four of its matches and tied one, their matches were all competitive as players on both teams strove for consistency in their respective games. Loomis’ #2 was medalist for the day with a 37, and Cindion Huang ‘25 had the low score for the Martlets at 43. Highlights on the day included the always competitive Huang’s tight match with Loomis’ #1 player with plenty of back and forth action and lovely shots. Lucy Wainwright ‘25 also battled hard and took satisfaction in her confident, smooth putting stroke, an area of Wainwright’s recent focus in practice. At #3 Ella Ungerman came out playing her usual steady game while enjoying the team’s first birdie of the season with a precise six foot putt on the par 3 seventh hole. Third Former, Annabelle Kreiger ‘27, experienced her first ever match and secured a tie in this close contest. While struggling with her short game a bit, she steadied herself and did well with her driver and long irons. Elise Park ‘25 and Grace Li ‘24 played together in the final group as Park battled her swing a bit at #5, and Li found a way to tie her opponent in the exhibition match. As always, our group enjoyed competing with the Pelicans and will see them a couple more times throughout the season. Next up is a tri-match with Williston and Taft on Saturday.
