KITT Invitational at Kingswood-Oxford - Tied for 6th

Over the course of 16 combined hours on both Saturday and Sunday, members of the boys’ varsity team traveled to nearby and neighboring Kingswood-Oxford to compete in the annual KITT Invitational. Much to the delight of all coaches and players, no rain! The teams were spread out among four different singles flights based on position, and two doubles flights in a similar format. Singles Saturday started off solid, with both captains David Suit ‘24 and Will Whiting ‘24 winning their openers, with Whiting winning his in a deciding super tiebreak. Logan Sun ‘24 battled hard in cold and windy conditions outside, and fell to a tough Groton opponent 6-4, 6-3. Hugh Olson ‘25 was at the #4 slot, and despite a great comeback in the second set, fell to a crafty and big hitting youngster from Choate. After the next few rounds we saw close matches across the board to finish Saturday’s action. Suit played the two time defending #1 singles champ from Hall High School and nearly stole the second set, Whiting fell 10-8 in the superbreaker against Choate, Sun and Hugh lost their consolation matches as well as a tight doubles match against Groton, and the Suit/Whiting team dropped a heartbreaker against the double lefty sophomore tandem from KO. Not our best ending, but Sunday was notably better, especially in doubles. Whiting and Suit dropped super close consolation singles matches, both 8-6, but regained some footing in doubles beating a Lawrenceville squad before falling to Deerfield 8-6. Great match experience for these two. Olson and Sun had to wait for singles to finish before taking out a gritty KO duo, then playing their best match of the weekend against the #2 Deerfield team and winning 8-6! Lots of time on court, tired legs, possible sunburns and windburns, but we capped off the day by visiting Trinity to watch Andrew Nelson ‘23 battle against Tufts. More to come for the squad later this week against Choate!
