An All-Around Team Win

After some bus trouble, Westminster rolled into Wallingford to face off against a physical Choate team with just fifteen minutes to warm up. The Martlets came out playing hard and fast, controlling play on both ends and jumping out to a 2-1 lead after the first quarter with goals from attackmen Cayden Darnowski ’25 and Aidan O’Callaghan ’26. The game became more physical and intense in the middle quarters as both teams traded hard fought goals with Darnowski adding two more to secure a hat trick. The fourth quarter started off 4-4 and stayed in a stalemate until long stick midfielder Brooks Berthiaume ’27 took the ball the full length of the field and bounced home the go-ahead goal. The Wild Boars tied the game with just seconds left, but nothing could deter the Martlets on this day. They competed hard in the overtime period, stopping Choate twice and finding…you guessed it…Cayden Darnowski (his fourth of the day!) for the game-winning goal with just a minute left to play. Wayne Kelly ’27 and Corbin Simons ’25 were especially gritty on defense and at midfield respectively and Auggie Jiranek ’27 once again showed incredible toughness and stamina at the midfield. Every Martlet played an important role in this all-around team win and the coaches couldn’t be prouder of the team’s effort, composure, and selfless play. We’ll look to recharge the next two days and strive to bring the same toughness and focus to another challenging road matchup against Taft on Saturday.
