Girls' Finish 4th at New Englands

The Girls’ and Boys’ Varsity Swimming/Diving finished out their season in spectacular fashion at New England’s. The day was filled with multiple New England Championship swims, personal bests, and top three finishes. Beyond these accomplishments, New England Championships marked a true group effort by the team who all came together on the deck to actively support each other and cheer each other on at the biggest meet of the season. The coaching staff was tremendously proud of each individual who competed and the true team culture that was displayed on deck. 

On Wednesday February 28th the divers kicked the meet off. Margee Mahoney ‘24 and Cecily Belford ‘24 competed in their last ever meet as Matlets and both accomplished top ten finishes. Margee Mahoney scored seventh in a score of 311.80 and Cecily Belford closely followed her with an eighth place finish in a score of 307.60. Congratulations to the divers on an incredible season - we will miss you next year! 

On Saturday night, New England’s finals began strong with an impressive two-second victory (1:41.06) for the Martlets in the 200 Medley relay. Congratulations to John Dwyer ‘26, Reggie Kanu ‘25, Owen Huang ‘24, and Will Larock ‘26 for their status as New England Champions in this event! Will Larcok followed up his victory in this event with an eighth place finish in the 200 Freestyle in a time of 1:57.62 and Simon Stambaugh ‘26 clinched fourteenth place in a time of 2:11.58 (a personal best time). John Dwyer then took the blocks for the 200 I.M. and swam an incredibly tough race to earn his second New England Championship title of the day (time of 1:57.64). This time marks a new personal best time for John Dwyer and a new school record. Reggie Kanu followed up Dwyer’s swim with an impressive 22.08 finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle, earning second place in this event. Owen Huang ‘24 battled it out in the 100 Freestyle for a fourth place finish (50.31) and swam a personal best time for the season. Following the 100 Freestyle, Simon Stambaugh, Matthew O’Connell ‘25, Filip Tomic ‘25, and Samuel Hyde ‘25 fought hard for a seventh place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:47.48). This swim was incredibly impressive as O’Connell, Hyde, and Tomic were all swimming in their first NE Championships. Following up this event, John Dwyer claimed his third New England Championship title of the day in the 100 Backstroke swimming a personal best time of 52.69 (only two-tenths off the New England record). Reggie Kanu finished up the individual events of the day in terrific fashion, claiming a New England Championship title in the 100 Breaststroke (1:01.80). Congratulations to Reggie for two New England titles in his first ever NE meet! The Boy’s finished the day strong with a third place podium finish in the 400 Freestyle relay (3:24.83). This team was composed of John Dwyer, Will Larock, Owen Huang, and Reggie Kanu. Congratulations to all the boys on a tremendous meet! 

The Girls’ began the meet with a strong sixth place finish in the 200 Yard Medley relay (1:58.47). This team was composed of Ellie Pearman ‘25, Fundee Tongtip ‘24, Hayden Schneider ‘25, and Grace Tyler ‘24. This swim marked a two second best time for the girls’ in this event. Grace Tyler followed up this event with a lights-out swim in the 200 Freestyle, dropping two seconds and securing a fourth place finish. In the 50 Freestyle, Madison Khuu ‘24 and Sunshine Li ‘26 battled hard for top sixteen finishes. Khuu was tenth in the event with a time of 26.84 and Li was thirteen in the event in a time of 27.69. Hayden Schneider followed up these swims in the 100 Fly with a top ten finish in a time of 1:08.02. Jennifer Weber battled hard to secure ninth place in this event in a personal best time of 1:04.58. Grace Tyler earned her second fourth place finish of the day in the 500 Freestyle, swimming an incredible personal best time of 5:33.69. Ellie Pearman also battled it out in the top heat to secure a top-twenty finish in a time of 6:14.02.In the Girls’ 100 Backstroke, Ellie Pearman took ninth in a personal best time of 1:05.00 and Jennifer Weber followed closely behind her for her second top ten finish of the day (1:05.11). Fundee Tongtip closed out the individual events of the day in an impressive swim in the 100 Breastroke with an eighth place finish (1:16.81). Lastly, one of the significant highlights of the day for the girls’ team was their incredible second place finish in the 200 Freestyle relay. The team composed of Madison Khuu, Jennider Weber, Hayden Schneider, and Grace Tyler dropped a second and a half to earn themselves a spot on the podium. Each girl swam a best time in this relay and Grace Tyler’s astounding last leg of the relay was a near two second drop for her personal best time. Well done girls! 

Overall, the Girls’ team finished fourth and the Boys’ team finished fifth. 

Congratulations to every member of the New England Championship team this year! And a special congratulations to Cecily Belford, Madison Khuu, Margee Mahoney, Fundee Tongtip, Grace Tyler, Owen Huang, and Nolan Stsypeck for competing in their last New England Championships! We will miss you all next year!
