Martlets Fall to Taft

The Martlets faced a strong and deep Taft squad in enemy territory and retreated home with only one victory. However, the troops battled hard down to the last point. Many of the matches were close, and a few points going the other way could easily have changed the outcome. Case in point was Tyson Mertz ‘27, who lost the first two games 11-8 and 11-9, and then staved off numerous match points in the third before finally succumbing 15-13. In a similar category were Crosby Cutler ‘27, Jonathan Li ‘24, Caden Powers ‘26, Mathias Seber ‘26 and Zach Li ‘27, who all lost games by a mere two or three points. Meanwhile, Harvey DeMovick ‘24 got off to a quick 2-1 lead, keeping his opponent off-balanced, but was unable to secure the match. The match of the day belonged to Brooks Berthiaume ‘27, who used his lightning quick speed to return shot after shot on route to a 3-0 victory.
