Martlets Fall to Wyverns

In a back and forth game, the Martlets could not take the lead and K-O held on for the win. The game began with both teams shooting well. At the end of the 1st quarter, the score was tied 13-13. Westminster cooled off the second period and the Wyverns hit several three pointers. At the end of the half, the score was 27-23 Wyverns. K-O made seven three pointers in the first half. Both teams cooled off in the final 16 minutes. Westminster had several opportunities to build a lead, but the rim was sealed. At the end of the 3rd period, K-O led 31-29. The defensive battle continued and Westminster eventually took the lead 35-33 with 4 minutes to play in the game. After several scoreless possessions, the Wyverns hit a three pointer with 1:20 left to take a 36-35 lead. This was still the score when Westminster had the ball with 27 seconds left. After several passes, the ball went out of bounds. The Wyverns were able to advance the ball and Westminster had to foul with 7 seconds left in the game. The Wyverns hit both of her free throws and Westminster missed a last second three pointer. Emme Pacheco-Hager ‘25 led the Martlets with 12 points and Haley Cramer ‘24 had 8 points. The Martlets played tremendous defense and held the Wyverns to 9 second half points before the two free throws at the end of the game. Westminster plays their final game on Saturday at Pomfret.
