Martlets Fall to DA

The Martlets got off to a great start in our final game of the season. Using our full-court press, we forced Deerfield into several early turnovers and got some easy looks in our transition offense. Despite taking high percentage shots, it felt like there was a lid on the rim as many refused to fall. Meanwhile, Deerfield began relying on their size and strength advantage to penetrate our zone defense and found several good shot opportunities in the paint. In response, we tried to push the pace on offense, but we continued to miss shots and occasionally forgot our defensive assignments, leading to a halftime deficit of 24-12. Despite some renewed defensive intensity in the second half, we got a little sloppy with the ball on offense and were dominated by Deerfield’s post players in the rebound battle. Throughout the half, we continued looking for good shots, but we struggled to connect – with one exception – Khang Ngo ‘27, who had a highlight reel game. It seemed he could not miss, hitting 3 point shots, turn around jump shots, and even converting an and-1, ultimately scoring 10 points on the day! Bennett Varao ‘27 also chipped in six points and fought hard for rebounds all game long. We also received outstanding defensive effort from the birthday boy, Julien Kocatas ‘26, as well as Arshaan Shah ‘26, and Aidan O’Callaghan ‘26. Despite today’s outcome, the team should be proud of a successful season, logging 8 wins and a 0.500 record, while making significant growth over the past three months. As we turn the page to the spring, we will look forward to seeing our Martlets pick up their rackets, bats, and sticks for a new season of sport!
