Martlets Tie Bears

This afternoon the Martlets celebrated their six seniors: Sydney Courtmanche, Liv Emerson, Olivia Gordon, Julia Matyas, Sophia Peterson and Alex Whalen.  The program is lucky to have such a great group of student-athletes.

The Martlets took on Berkshire School in Jackson Rink at 1:45pm.  The first two periods of the game were full of special team action for both teams.  There were a total of 12 penalties called with each team tallying 6 penalties throughout the first and second.  The Martlets were able to strike first when they scored a power play goal with 4:49 left in the first period.  Sydney Courtmanche '24 took a shot from the point that deflected off a defender and over the netminder's shoulder putting the Martlets up 1-0.  Heading into the first intermission the game felt like it was in the Martlets' control leading 1-0 and outshooting Berkshire 17 to 10.  Almost half way through the second Berkshire had just finished killing off a penalty when Alyssa Jimenez '25 entered the offensive zone with speed and put a hard low shot on net that slid under the goalies pads.  Martlets 2 Berkshire 0.  The two goal lead would last until 8 seconds left in the second period when Berkshire scored a 4v4 goal.  In the third, Berkshire tied the score at two with a power play goal.  Soon after the Martlets earned a power play, but were not able to capitalize.  With 2:23 left in the game there was a scramble in front of the net and the Martlets received a penalty.  The PK unit stepped up and was able to keep the score tied at two until the end of regulation.  In overtime the Martlets had one last power play opportunity and created a few great scoring chances, but the Berkshire goalie was not letting up.  At the end of the five minute overtime the score remained tied; Westminster 2 Berkshire 2.
