Martlets Shutout Taft

This afternoon the Martlets hosted the Taft Rhinos for a Founders League matchup.  The first period was back and forth and both teams were unable to capitalize on power play opportunities.  The second period the Martlets were able to take more control and outshot the Rhinos 15 to 8.  Heading into the third the game was scoreless.  Finally the Martlets were able to take the lead with just over five minutes left in the third when Alex Whalen '24 passed to her D partner Mackenzie Silliman '26.  Silliman took a shot and the rebound landed on the stick on Liv Emerson '24.  Emerson placed a backhand shot over the goalkeeper's shoulder to put the Martlets on the board.  For the remainder of the third the Martlets were killing off two consecutive penalties.  With 55 seconds left on the clock Olivia Gordon '24 got the puck inside the defensive zone and fired a shot down the length of the ice and into the Rhinos empty net.  Final score Martlets 2 Rhinos 0.
