Martlets Fall to Taft

In their final match of the season, the Martlets showed how far they have come this season. Even though they lost to the Big Red, their improvement was real. The team’s first competition of the season was a scrimmage against Taft, which Westminster lost 7-0, with only one player managing to take games off of her opponent. Today the Black and Gold was tantalizing close to an upset. The Martlets proved to be stronger in the heart of the lineup as well at the bottom in exhibition matches. The trio of sophomores Clover Cooper, Alex Musser and Lucy Morton all won in four games at #3, #4 and #5. These three athletic and smart players have improved so much over the course of the season and all have potential to move up to varsity at some point in the future. Three other girls in the top seven also pushed their opponents to four games, and in particular Lilly McMillen ‘27 was a couple of points away from winning the match for Westminster. Maybe the biggest win of the day was at #9 where the lone senior, Tarapi Pyo, won her final match as a Martlet. It has been tremendously fun working with these girls this season and I hope they continue whacking the ball and enjoying squash in the future.
