Martlets Fall to St. Mark's

For our last away match before Nationals we took the long journey over to St. Marks to play a close game of squash. St. Marks was a bit of a mystery to us most of the season because we played none of the same teams and we were not in the same division for New Englands so we were going in a bit blind. The Martlets were excited nonetheless and didn’t let the unknown get to us. We were having a hard time adjusting to playing on unfamiliar courts and many of the calls due to the visibility of the courts threw some of the Martlets off their game. At numbers 1 and 2 Sophia Lazor ‘27 and Elle Wilson “26 were able to win their matches in three games using simple squash which included a lot of height and clean drops to secure their wins. At numbers 3, 4, and 8 Margaret Dilks ‘24, Emily Fonner ‘26 and Nora Davis ‘24 had tougher matches. Their opponents hit strategically and defended well on court. Margaret almost took the second game showing a lot of grit and improvement from the first game but lost 10-12 ultimately. At numbers 5-7 Alice Tao ‘24, Chase Hager ‘26 and Natasha Johnson ‘27 were the only of the day to battle it out in four or five games. Each game for them was a battle and there was a lot of fight and effort displayed but in the end St. Marks had the edge. We had a good talk about trying to play comfortably in uncomfortable and unfamiliar situations/courts because it can and will affect our mentality. Everyone had highs and lows but still kept a good spirit. The Martlets will take on Taft for our last home match which is also senior day!
