Martlets Defeat Lions

After a stretch of road games, the Martlets looked forward to playing against Kent in front of our home crowd on Parents and Family Weekend. The Martlets did not disappoint, channeling the positive energy into their most dominant performance of the year. Kent came out strong, putting us down early. But the team eventually settled into the game's rhythm, turning the tables and never looking back. Early on, the pick-and-roll game between Jermaine James ‘24 and Austin Black ‘24 worked beautifully, and strong man-to-man defense created transition opportunities off turnovers. Wills Lown ‘24 and Johnny Hadden ‘24 dialed in their perimeter shot, hitting critical threes in the first and second halves. Others contributed from the perimeter as well, including Thomas Blouin ‘26, Zoumana Ouattara ‘25, and Declan Cody ‘25. The Martlets were up twenty-four points by the end of the first half; only three dressed players had not scored. Coming out of halftime, we kept our foot on the gas pedal. Chris Powell ‘26 came alive in the second half, working magic from the outside in to earn easy layups and a couple of dunks. By the end of the game, we had four players in double digits, and only one dressed player lacked points. That alone shows the teamwork and unselfish play on display throughout the game. Winning is always good, but how we win matters. We won as a team against Kent. We’ll look to do the same as we travel for our final away game of the season against Williston Northampton next Wednesday.
