Martlets Fall to Bears

The Martlets traveled up the mountains of Berkshire to take on the Bears on a brisk February afternoon. The Black and Gold had terrific defense energy from the opening tip forcing a two-minute long offensive series. Perimeter defense from Finn Williams ‘26 and Rhys Marschke 24’ helped fortify the martlets against a Bears squad looking to make interior baskets. Hugh Olson ‘25, the pride of Rumson, knocked down a heat check three-pointer, and Jin Lee ‘24 added another. Marschke drove hard to the rim from the opening tip, converting a three-point play. Passing turnovers and some physical play hindered the Martlets in the second half as the Bears took the lead in a competitive game. Will Whiting ‘24, Draven Chung ‘26, and Liam Murray ‘26 added interior points as the minutes waned but the Bears walked out on top on their home floor. Olson led the way with nine points. The Black and Gold demonstrated many of the ways they have improved in teamwork and communication, but the team will take the next two days to focus on the next game against Kent in the confines of Pettee Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
