Martlets Lose Close Match to LC

In the words of Captain Andrew Pang ‘24, “Loomis wanted it more than we did today.” In a long match, Loomis won one five-gamer and three four-gamers, while Westminster won two five-gamers and a four-gamer. All totaled there were 31 games played in seven matches with twelve of those decided by the minimum of two points. It was close from the start. Mason Abbate ‘24 was off his game today and still had game balls in the fourth game to push the match to five before succumbing. Kai Appleton ‘24 was down 0-2 before trusting himself and winning two close games only to fall 9-11 in the fifth. James Teng ‘26 was down 0-8 in the third game and then won seven of the next ten points, showing signs of brilliance along the way. Cisco Lilien ‘24 found another opponent for the second straight match, who could match his touch. Ben Swift ‘25 earned the Martlets the first point of the day with a huge comeback. Down 1-6 in the deciding game, Swift turned on his jets and ran every ball down as he peppered the back corners with pace. He won 10 of the last 12 points played. Jason Hu ‘25 lost the first game and made some great adjustments to win the next three in a row. Pang played superbly at #1 with withering rails and multiple nicks. He had to watch closely to be able to defend against strong boasts, but showed real quality to earn the final point for the team. Tabor and Choate arrive Saturday for the last home match of the season.
