Martlets Defeat Westover

The Martlets, well rested after a much needed long weekend break, welcome our opponents from Westover to face off in the last match before New Englands. Many were ready to play after the break but some were still recovering from some sicknesses that were affecting many here at Westminster. Everyone wanted to show grit and perseverance knowing we had New Englands coming up and then Nationals right around the corner. Matches 2 through 8 went by pretty quickly, the Martlets securing the win in 3 games, most games won with at least a six point lead. We expected to have those results but also knew that Sophia Lazor ‘27 playing number 1, would have a tough match. Her opponent was new to the team but already had a reputation for being someone who was extremely skilled and hard to beat. Sophia had her teammates and fellow Westminster Martlets watching to encourage her to fight the entire match. Even though she wasn’t able to win the match, Sophia never gave up and tried to adjust her game during the match which at some points worked really well in her favor. Everyone played well with this being the first match back after the weekend. This was a good reintroduction into match play before heading to New Englands this upcoming weekend. Go Martlets!
