Martlets Fall to Millbrook

On the eve of the winter long weekend, the Martlets hopped on a bus for the long away to Millbrook School in New York. In contrast to the cold weather, Millbrook came out hot. Despite planning for Millbrook’s full-court press, their press caused too many early turnovers that they capitalized on quickly, giving them early momentum. Much like our game against Hotchkiss, we struggled to get the offense going in the first half, scoring only nineteen points. Down significantly after the first, the halftime message was simple: win the second half. And we did. Rather than nineteen points, we scored forty-four to Millbrook’s thirty-seven through a collective team effort. Austin Black ‘24 netted his highest individual point total this year (25 pts) primarily from putbacks off rebounds and pick-and-rolls. Johnny Hadden ‘24 (9 pts) and Wills Lown ‘24 (11 pts) worked the perimeter all game, with Wills draining from the outside in the first half and Johnny in the second. Jermaine James ‘24 became a key facilitator for many of these points with dime passes off of pick-and-rolls or drive-and-kicks while Jayden Reid ‘25 (10 pt) continued to work his flex magic from the perimeter and inside the paint. Although Millbrook won, our team did not give up; we faced the challenge and won the second half. We will take another away trip to Pomfret after our return from the long weekend.
