Martlets Fall to Bearcats

The Martlets took the journey to Hotchkiss with JV girls. We knew going in that it was going to be extremely tough matches because Hotchkiss is number 2 in the league. We have been known to play our best against strong teams so we were ready to go even though we were down two players due to sickness we felt ready to fight. All matches ended in 3 but each player had many highs in their matches. Sophia Lazor ‘27 gave her opponent a run for their money playing at #1. She was in control and dominating the second game of the match using her backhand rails to put her opponent under pressure she was to almost win the game. She fell short losing it 8-11 but didn’t let that get to her and kept her foot on the gas the rest of the match earning herself a compliment from the Hotchkiss coach about her grit. The rest of the team had to play up 1-2 spots on the ladder but didn’t let that get in the way of them playing hard. Margaret Dilks ‘24 was #2 today and made sure to set the tone for the other round of matches with competitive boats and drives that forced her opponent to switch up her game. Margaret had her game face on the entire way through and played some of her best squash in this match. Alice Tao ‘24, Chase Hager ‘26, Natasha Johnson ‘27, Nora Davis ‘24 and Meiyin Ren ‘25 all had to play up as well and didn’t let it get to them. Everyone was having fun even in defeat and each girl buckled down in their second games and showed better tactics and strategy. Even in defeat the Martlet grit and grace never wavered and they are excited to unwind during their well deserved long weekend.
