Martlets Edge Millbrook in OT

The Martlets faced off against Millbrook in an early afternoon game. The two teams were evenly matched throughout the entire game, but it was Westminster that found themselves on the scoreboard first.  Just a  few minutes into the game Talia Ondy took the puck from the defensive zone and drove down the ice. She created a great scoring opportunity for herself after beating the last Millbrook defender and roofing the puck into the upper part of the net.  Millbrook answered back and was able to score twice before the period was over.  Heading into the second period the Martlets trailed 2-1.  The Martlets kept the pressure on during the second period outshooting Millbrook, but the period ended scoreless for both teams. Shortly after the puck drop in the third period, Millbrook found the back of the net again off a shot at the point. Westminster continued to battle throughout the third period and found themselves with a player advantage with 8:12 remaining.  The Martlets scored a power play goal when Alyssa Jiminez took a hard shot that was tipped by Olivia Gordon. The scoring did not stop there for the Martlets. With less than three minutes remaining Adrienne Hall took off down the ice and found herself in a 1v1 matchup with a Millbrook defender. Hall took a shot and it was deflected off the defender and into the goal to tie the game. Regulation time expired and both teams took to the ice for a five minute overtime period. Talia Ondy struck again to win the game for the Martlets. She was able to get the puck by the goalie with two minutes left in OT. The Martlets fought hard to the end of this game to overcome a two goal deficit. Westminster will be back on the road for an away game at Portsmouth Abbey on Friday evening.
