Martlets Fall to AOF

The Martlets welcomed Avon Old Farms to our home court for an exciting night game. After going down early after Avon sank several threes and a handful of bad turnovers, our team fed on the energy of the home crowd and bounced back with Jayden Reid ‘25 and Jermaine James ‘24, leading the offense with eight and eleven points, respectively, in the first half. With additional offensive support from Johnny Hadden ‘24 (3 pts), Wills Lown ‘24 (6 pts), and Austin Black ‘24 (4 pts), our offense was running solidly, earning us a seven-point lead going into the half. Good defense is also a part of the story. Zoumana Ouattara ‘25 and Jake Carbone ‘24 were defensive pests, while Austin Black ‘24 and Jayden Reid ‘25 worked hard for defensive boards. But bad luck descended on us in the second half. Austin Black ‘24 fouled out early and Jayden Reid ‘25 lost a contact after an Avon foul, disrupting his vision and ability to play. Avon began to press, earning several turnovers, and our offense stagnated as we were less able to score in the half-court and in transition. Avon clawed back into the game, eventually taking and keeping the lead in the last five minutes or so. Any loss is tough, but our team should be proud for fighting every second despite the challenges of circumstance.
