Martlets Fall to Bearcats

With low numbers on the team, the Martlets were determined to give the game the best they had. During the first few minutes, Hotchkiss scored 6 points, which brought down the energy of the team, until Janet Kiburi ‘26 scored a three-pointer! The Martlets regained their motivation and started playing to win. Despite their efforts, at the end of the first quarter, Hotchkiss was still ahead with 12 points. Very concentrated on finding an opportunity to score, the Martlets were leaving open spaces for the opponent to get closer to the basket. During an offensive play from Hotchkiss, Ashley Martinez ‘27 caught a rebound, giving Westy the chance to take possession of the ball and take a shot. Kelly Youngman ‘24, during the third quarter, scored a second basket for Westminster, which was celebrated by her teammates! Lulu Dawson ‘26 worked hard on defense to stop Hotchkiss from coming close to the basket, which slowed them down on many occasions, and helped Blessing Kieh ‘24 make a speedy recovery, bringing the ball back to Hotchkiss’ basket in an attempt to score. Piper Lundin ‘26 also had possession of the ball on multiple occasions and showed her dribbling skills as she made offensive plays which resulted in numerous shots at the basket. Jaelyn Kang ‘27, helped Westminster’s offense by making some passes to her teammates, giving them more opportunities to score. Overall, the Martlets played gracefully, showing their team work on the court.
