Martlets Fall to Salisbury

On a wintry mix Wednesday afternoon the Martlets drove into the mystic hills of Salisbury to take on the Knights at the Flood Athletic Center. An adjustment to the starting lineup, Michael Basich ‘26 and Finn Williams ‘26 helped inject some energy into the Black and Gold opening unit, capitalized by a block by Ethan Hernandez ‘27. Against the 2-3 zone of the Knights, their ball movement helped provide some open looks and they closed out against a Salisbury team that was potent behind the three-point line. Hugh Olson ‘26 erased a shot with an emphatic block and Alexei Kocatas ‘26 jumped a passing line around midcourt generating a key turnover adding to his perimeter defense against Knight ball handlers. Transition defense was ultimately stuck in neutral for the Martlets and turnovers provided the Knights too many offensive possessions. Rhys Marschke ‘24 drained a three-pointer in the second half but there was not enough execution for the Black and Gold to chip away at the Knights. The Martlets must turn the page quickly as Avon Old Farms make the drive down the road Saturday evening on Williams Hill.
