Martlets Fall to Williston

The Martlets had a fantastic meet against Williston this Wednesday. There were many highlights of this meet, including personal best times and some first-time races. The Girls’ team started strong with a win in the 200 Medley Relay team (team composed of Jennifer Weber ‘26, Madison Khuu ‘24, Hayden Schneider ‘25, and Grace Tyler ‘24). This team raced a time of 2:03.05. Following this race, Grace Tyler won the 200 Freestyle in a time of 2:11.75. Sunshine Li ‘26 had a fantastic race in the 50 Freestyle, swimming a 28.37 (only hundredths off her personal best time) and claiming third for the Martlets. In the diving portion of the meet, Cecily Belofrd ‘24 and Margee Mahoney ‘24 claimed second and third respectively. Belford scored 195.00 and Mahoney scored 188.55. 

In the second half of the meet, Hayden Schneider started the Girls’ off with a win in the 100 Butterfly (1:09.71). Grace Tyler scored her second win of the day in the 500 Freestyle (5:52.37). Caroline Hebbeler ‘27 also swam in this event, completing her first ever 500 Yard Freestyle, scoring fourth place in a time of 7:39.79. A terrific accomplishment by Hebbeler! Jennifer Weber ‘26 scored the Martlet’s final first place individual finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke in a terrific time of 1:08.55. A great day of racing for the girls! 

The Boys’ began the meet equally strong, claiming a first place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team composed of John Dwyer ‘26, Reggie Kanu ‘25, Will Larock ‘26, and Owen Huang ‘24 swam a fantastic time of 1:47.76. Reggie Kanu remains undefeated in the 50 Yard Freestyle after today’s meet, claiming first place by over a second (an astounding accomplishment in a sprint event) in a time of 22.98. In the 100 Freestyle, Owen Huang battled hard to score second place for the Martlets in a time of 53.27. Following Huang’s swim, Will Larock had a phenomenal win in the 500 Freestyle, swimming a time of 5:27.64. The Boys’ relay team scored their second relay win of the day in the 200 Freestyle relay (team composed of John Dywer, Sam Hyde ‘25, Will Larock, and Reggie Kanu). Following this event, John Dwyer won his second race of the day in the 100 Yard Backstroke (56.46). Finally, Reggie Kanu closed the Boy’s meet out strong with a win in the 100 Yard Breastroke (1:09.49). 

A fantastic day of racing for all swimmers! We will be back in action for our final home meet (also our senior night!) on February 7th.
