Martlets Shutout by DA

The Martlets played our first home match in 2 weeks, against Deerfield on Wednesday. From the start, we knew that this was going to be a tough match and Deerfield proved to be a strong team. Our players fought hard, and everyone played some good squash. Up and down the ladder, Deerfield played very solid fundamental squash to win all 7 matches against the Martlets. Some highlights for the Martlets came from Phil Zhang ‘24 and Mark Yang ‘26. Playing at number 3, Phil dropped the first game but rebounded with an amazing second game which he won 11-4. He came out on the losing end of two very competitive final games, dropping tight 8-11 and 10-12 decisions. At #1, Mark played his best squash of the season to date. He won a highly competitive and entertaining first game 14-12, before dropping the next two fairly quickly. By this point the other matches had concluded, and the match had a full audience of people watching. Mark rebounded and was able to take the fourth game 11-6 to push the match to the deciding fifth game. After a close first few points, the Deerfield player broke away before Mark pushed back before dropping the final point for a 9-11 defeat. Nonetheless, this was the best Mark has played to date. The team will have a break from competition this Saturday, before returning to action at Avon on Monday.
