Martlets Fall to AOF

The Martlets hosted cross-town rival Avon for this year's installment of the "Monday Game." The puck drop for this one was set for 4:15 PM but around 3:30 PM the fans started rolling in. The student section for both teams was rocking well before the teams took the ice for warm-up. The atmosphere was electric and both teams were excited to get this one underway. The pace of this game from start to finish was incredible. Both teams played with lots of pace, executed well and both teams carried momentum at different points during the tilt. The Martlets opened the scoring in the first when Quinn Pine '25 drove the net and tipped home a pass from Cullen Horn '25. Avon responded several minutes later off a defensive zone breakdown in the Martlet end to tie the game at 1. The second period offered up some very entertaining hockey. Both goalies were outstanding in the second period making key saves at key times. Avon scored on a power play just 40 seconds into the third period to take a 2-1 lead. The Martlets kept battling and eventually broke through on a power play goal from Eric Elbery '24 at the 6-minute mark to tie the game at 2. Both teams kept pushing and with just under a minute to play took advantage of a few failed clearing attempts by the Black and Gold and found the back of the net to seal the game 3-2. Not the outcome the Black and Gold wanted but an incredible effort tonight that if it can be sustained moving forward should yield some positive results.
