Martlets Lose OT Game to K-O

The Martlets looked forward to a rematch against our crosstown rival, Kingswood-Oxford. Although the game did not go our way–losing in the final second of overtime–we played an excellent overall game. Going into the game, we knew we needed to play with energy, fight hard on the boards, and minimize turnovers. And we did just that. Jayden Reid ‘25 exerted himself the entire game, catching fourteen boards and sinking twenty-five points for an impressive double-double performance. Austin Black ‘24 and Johnny Hadden ‘24 also fought hard on the boards, earning us either second-chance opportunities or possession. Jermaine James ‘24 and Chris Powell ‘26 also played very well, draining ten and fourteen points, respectively. But perhaps the star of the show was our zone defense, which held firm most of the night. We battled until the end of regulation as Chris Powell ‘24 laid in a bucket to send it to overtime. Down by three in the final minute of overtime, Wills Lown ‘24 was fouled shooting a three. With ice in his veins, he sank those free throws, tying the game and giving us a chance to win. Kingswood missed a shot on the final possession with about ten seconds left on the game clock, but we did not box out. One of their players dove to the basket, grabbed the rebound, and put it in to win the game. It was a tough way to lose after such a compelling game. Next, we take on Hotchkiss.
