Martlets Fall to Hotchkiss

On a cold, snowy Saturday afternoon, the Martlets matched up against the Hotchkiss Bearcats. After an overtime loss to Kingswood Oxford the night before but feeling good about our team’s performance, we hoped to add another win to our record. Unfortunately, we had a bit of a Jekyll & Hyde performance, a tale of two halves. We could not buy a basket in the first half. Despite getting decent looks, our offense sputtered with too many possessions ending with no points. Hotchkiss–a three-point shooting team–found a rhythm from the line, sinking six threes in the first half and putting up forty points to our nineteen. But the excellent performances of Jayden Reid ‘25 and Jermaine James ‘24 revived our team in the second half. Both of them started to find their groove. Reid put up a total of twenty-two points, eighteen of which came in the second half, while James earned sixteen while dishing out some excellent assists, particularly to Austin Black ‘24 (13 pts). We scored forty-four points in the second half–a stark contrast to the first half and a reminder of our ability to score. We travel to take on the Salisbury Knights next Wednesday.
